Liverpool Street is a bit of a fighter. After being the target of London’s first attack during the First World War it also survived British Rail’s plans to demolish the station in favour of a modern development. The now famous 1979 conservation campaign was led by Sir John Betjeman and Sir Spike Milligan, and the building subsequently becoming the muse for some pretty decent poetry.
Design wise, think copper, steel mesh, stained timber and panelling – a good mix of classic and contemporary. Arched windows look into Liverpool Street Station itself and yes it’s very easy to locate as it’s the one beside McDonald’s. On Rivington Street in the thick of Shoreditch, right next to Cargo and the Iniva Gallery, this was originally built in the 1930’s.
Working with architects Wells Mackereth on the refurbishment, we’ve brought out the original art-deco features, great natural light and floor to ceiling heights, with a green roof terrace available to all, a range of offices in all shapes and sizes, meeting rooms, event spaces and a load of green features. Local occupiers tend to be from the creative and technology sectors, with The Tea Building round the corner housing, amongst others, Mother and Shoreditch House.
If you google Rivington Street you get an eye-popping story about the University Saloon which investigated local criminal activity, described as “the worst hangout on the whole eastside for pickpockets, pimps and thieves’.

The Black & White Building has never been a Saloon (although we might put a bar in there…). It was originally built for furniture manufacturing and has the iconic high ceilings and large windows of Shoreditch’s roaring 18 Century furniture and printing trade.
We worked with architects Buckley Gray Yeoman to create 4 floors, 3 meeting rooms, 1 boardroom, 1 roof garden, 5 terraces and a co-working space.
Lloyds Avenue is just a short walk from Fenchurch Street and round the corner from Leadenhall Market with it’s tempting array of market stalls, cafes, bars and restaurants.
